Getting Involved
We are lucky to be part of the small, tight knit group that is the Falkland Islands community

That is why, where possible, we are committed to supporting the fantastic events, groups, organisations, charities and people that help create this unique culture and community.

Direct Beneficiaries

CFL Charitable Trust

Set up in March 2018, we created the CFL Charitable Trust to provide much needed support to causes beyond our daily, core activities.

With the Charitable Trust we aim to:

  • Relieve persons who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress as a result of local, national or international disaster
  • Further the education, including social and physical training, of any person
  • Generally benefit the inhabitants of the Falkland islands

Most notably, the Charitable Trust has been proud to support those who have decided to further their education, in whatever field they have chosen.

If you are looking at developing your education, applications are generally considered in May, but please get in contact with us at any time of the year to find out more about our education grants or other ways in which the Charitable Trust might help you, at sharon.adminpr@cfl.co.fk.

Principal Sponsor

Falklands Conservation Charity Ball

Every year, Falklands Conservation holds a charity ball to raise money for their work protecting and restoring the local environment and wildlife. CFL is the principal sponsor of the Falklands Conservation Ball and the event has become one of the highlights of the year on the social calendar, celebrating high-quality local artists with the auction and an all-round good night out.

Through our close relationship with Falklands Conservation, we have also worked over the years to develop environmentally friendly practices within the longline fishery. This culminated in the Falklands National Plan of Action which was launched in 2004 and placed the Falkland Islands at the forefront of seabird protection around the world. Very Sporting

Badminton and Swimming

In 2013, CFL awarded a sponsorship representing £25,000 over 5 years to the local Badminton club to help them develop the skills, abilities and experience of its members. The Club has consistently performed very well in international competitions such as the NatWest Island Games in Bermuda, Jersey and Gotland in 2013, 2015 & 2017 respectively, and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

We’ve also sponsored the Swimming Club on their excursions to the Island Games since 2011.  The competitors are generally amongst the youngest swimmers at the Games and the high level of competition can be both daunting and exhilarating with Commonwealth or even Olympic competitors attending.

Heritage

Maritime Section at the Historic Dockyard Museum

In 2014, CFL became life-time partners of the Maritime Section of new Dockyard Museum. The £25,000 sponsorship package has enabled the Museum to draw on the vast maritime heritage of the Islands, from the days of sailing ships to the establishment of a modern fishing industry to create a world-class display that will thrill visitors. CFL, as the first local company to operate its own fishing vessels, and the first to achieve MSC certification for its fishery, has its own well-deserved place in the display.

In the name of our Indonesian crew we sponsor an established children’s charity in Flores by contributing towards the basic costs of their everyday lives, from clean water to education.

Cathedral Roof

In 2017 CFL donated £100,000 to the Christ Church Cathedral, the most southerly Cathedral in the world, for much-needed repairs to its roof.

CFL Hunters

The indoor football league 2021 was the last recipient of our sports-related donations, ably captained by our very own Ross Peters.  Champions 2021!

Monthly donations

CFL make regular donations for prizes and small sponsorships for community events throughout the year.  Within reason these are upon request.
